HEALTH BENEFITS

Mealworms have many potential health benefits, including:

Mealworms are high in protein, with some sources saying they contain 20–30% protein, which is more than meat or fish. They also contain all essential amino acids.

Mealworms contain monounsaturated and omega-3 fatty acids, which are considered healthy fats.

Mealworm fiber is a complex carbohydrate that can help with constipation, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. Mealworms also contain chitin, an indigestible fiber that may promote healthy gut
bacteria.

Mealworms contain vitamins B1, B2, B5, and B12, as well as minerals like copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, sodium, and zinc. Dried mealworms have higher levels of these nutrients
than other foods, including eggs, pork, beef, lamb, fish, and milk. For example, dried mealworms have more than 21 times the magnesium of eggs.

Mealworms are more environmentally sustainable than other protein sources, requiring less land and water to produce the same amount of protein as beef.
